This past month, Hyrum had surgery on his ear lobe and canal to repair his fractured ear lobe and to reconstruct his eardrum. Two days later, John, Hyrum, and I are in the car driving around. John and I are speaking softly enough to discuss dinner options as we didn't want Hyrum's opinion (we didn't want fast food again). A few minutes into the conversation, Hyrum pipes up his opinion. John and I both look at each other and look back at Hyrum. He states "oh, by the way, I can hear out of my new ear again."
Hyrum has to sleep with John and me for 6 weeks after his surgery to make sure that he doesn't sleep on his new ear. This means that one or both of us aren't getting any sleep. While we slept in hotels, it was fine as we would take turns sleeping with him. But when we are at home, this made for a tight squeeze on our king-size bed. Hyrum slept on my side of the bed to help him face away from us, John stayed on his side, and I got to sleep in the middle of the bed on the hump that John and I rarely cross over. When I have to work at 5 am, then I would sleep in Hyrum's bed to allow me to sleep the whole night and John took over dealing with Hyrum. John doesn't fit on a twin-size bed very well, so when he was feeling crowded, he would head for the couch.
Near the end of the 6 weeks, Hyrum very concerned asked his dad if I was committing adultery. John asked Hyrum why he would think that. Hyrum's response was "she is sleeping with me." John had to explain that we were safe from mom committing adultery with him and we had a good laugh afterward.
